Can Kalshi change the rules of a market after you trade it?

Kalshi can change a market's rules text, title and times after trading has started, in some circumstances. Its rulebook allows changes to contract specifications after the first day of trading (OddsShopper). I have recorded 20 on Kalshi (6 clarifications, 10 rules edits, 3 date changes, 1 title change).

Cases in the news

  • A lawsuit over Kalshi's Iran leadership market says a carve-out for the leader's death "was not disclosed until after airstrikes were reported". Kalshi later said it would refund trading fees on disputed settlements (Gaming America).
  • Kalshi renamed a market before it resolved (Event Horizon).

What I compare on Kalshi

The title, the outcome name, the primary and secondary rules, the close and expiration times and the early-close condition, read from Kalshi's public API. Kalshi's API lists the markets it updated, so most edits show up within about 10 minutes, unless I'm behind on a busy evening.

How to be told

Press Watch on a Kalshi market, or paste its ticker (for example KXHOUSE-26) on the watchlist, then add a Discord channel, a webhook or the private RSS feed. The alert carries the old and new words. Details: alerts for Kalshi rules changes.

Limits

  • Kalshi doesn't publish when it edited. I show the window between my last check with the old text and the check that found the new.
  • A ruling explained only on X or in a support reply isn't in the API. Link it on the market page and watchers are alerted.
